Home of thorn birds:

This species can be found within areas of rocky meadows and forests.

It generally prefers to live within mountainous areas in European and Asian countries, at high altitudes, and has a tremendous ability to adapt to various climatic conditions.

It usually migrates during the winter from very mountainous areas.

The cold is temporarily unsuitable for this type of bird to warmer and lower altitude areas.

Among the countries where it can be found are: Japan, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Spain, and the regions of central and southern Europe.

Most species of thistle finches usually prefer to live in pairs, travel in groups, and there are some species that are solitary and prefer to live alone, as they mate temporarily during the breeding season.

Reproduction of thorn birds:

The time and pattern of the breeding season varies depending on the species.

Some of these species are monogamous, while others are polyandrous, in which males and females mate with multiple partners during the same breeding season.

Usually, in this case, the real mother undertakes the task of feeding the young and caring for them after hatching, while the males of the group take care of them.

Who mated with her is the task of bringing food.

Both males and females of thistle finches share the task of building the nest and embracing and caring for the young.

Females usually lay a number ranging between four and six green or blue, unspotted eggs in the cup-shaped nest, which they incubate for approximately 13 days.

They usually move during the breeding season.

From high areas where they usually live to lower areas with vegetation cover.

On average, the lifespan of thistle birds in the wild ranges between 5-7 years.

Thorn sparrow diet:

These birds are considered carnivorous species, and they can eat insects and small invertebrates that can be swallowed with one bite due to their small size, such as cockroaches, ants, and earthworms.

They can also sometimes eat berries and seeds during the winter.

On the other hand, the peregrine falcon is considered one of its predatory birds.
