The original habitats of this bird are threatened by loss and destruction, as these areas are subject to irrigation water drainage, which may threaten birds with pesticide poisoning،  It is also subject to hunting by some people, especially in urban areas such as Nigeria.

Breeding of the monkey bird :

The male egret bird is characterized by monogamy, meaning that it marries one wife seasonally, as it mates once a year, and the male stays with the female throughout the nesting period،  The male also does not tend to mate with the same wives the following season, and birds usually begin to reproduce at the age of two years.  As for nesting, the male monkey bird brings sticks to the female to build the nest on the tree, then the female lays 3-4 eggs, and the incubation period of the eggs lasts approximately 24 days،  Birds begin flying at the age of four weeks, and become completely independent between 6-7 weeks.

 Life cycle:

Abu Qardan lives in groups of "swarms" that appear when the peasants were preparing the land for agriculture, plowing it and turning its layers, and when they see the land with water،  Abu Qardan birds come and find them in the water, hitting the ground with their beak to eat the harmful worms inside the soil.In this way, the ground is cleaned of harmful worms and insects،  The farmer was happy with the presence of Abu Qardan in his field, and Abu Qardan was called "the farmer’s friend".

At sunset, Abu Qardan would leave the field and climb the trees in the fields, and the trees were colored white،  Early in the morning, you find Abu Qardan in the fields. He begins his work eating worms from the ground, and when he flies in the sky, he flies in a flock, and the children used to sing to him when they saw him, saying: "  Make a flock to tell your father, "It is as if the birds are listening to the children, so they were once again lined up in one row.

Where is Abu Qardan today :

It exists, but not in fields, but rather on piles of garbage and next to sewage drains, and its shape is no longer as bright white as it was before،  Rather, its feathers became dirty gray and its shape was pale and depressing.

This is due to the decrease in the agricultural area and the use of groundwater to irrigate the remaining agricultural land،  In addition, the farmer no longer leaves the land long enough between agricultural cycles and does not prepare it in sufficient time, and most farmers irrigate their fields at night.

 It happened in Egypt:

Abu Qardan is considered a farmer-friendly bird.It eliminates all insects and worms harmful to agricultural soil.It is also inherent in the farmer on his land throughout the day until evening comes.

Contrary to usual, there were many complaints from citizens in the Al-Ambaa neighborhood in the city of Mut in the Dakhla Center in the New Valley, about the presence of Abu Qardan on the trees adjacent to the residential neighborhoods؛  This sparked panic and terror in the hearts of citizens as a result of the unpleasant odors it emits, which reached residential apartments and caused the transmission of infection between children and adults.

The local unit of the Dakhla Center launched an expanded tree cutting campaign with the aim of eliminating complaints about the monkey bird, which has spread widely on trees in the middle of residential neighborhoods.

Kamal Ibrahim, head of the center and city of Dakhla, said that an expanded cleaning campaign has been initiated that includes pruning and pruning the trees located next to the residential units, which the monkey bird has recently taken as its residence،  Pointing out that parts of these trees were cut down, not completely uprooted, in order to preserve the cultural appearance of the city until this problem was eliminated.

Ibrahim stressed that the problem with the monkey bird was limited to the fact that the bird left the fields, farms, villages, and on the outskirts of cities and settled in the trees in the middle of residential neighborhoods in large numbers،  Which led to the spread of unpleasant odors that disturbed the lives of citizens and may lead to the spread of diseases.

He pointed out that there is no solution to eliminate this problem other than displacing the bird to ensure its return to its original homeland or exterminating it،  Pointing out that his displacement was resorted to by cutting and pruning the trees that he uses as his residence،  Pointing out that this problem requires the solidarity of all popular and executive efforts, especially since the matter is related to preserving the environment and the lives of citizens.

One of those interested in the environment believed that there are several alternative ways to displace Abu Qardan that are better than cutting and pruning trees, as the tree represents an indispensable environmental wealth on the oasis street, especially in the summer.

He added that there are several solutions, including installing a lighting detector opposite each tree, as Abu Qardan leaves places that have bright rays and is thus eliminated without harming the trees.

He continued that the second solution is to spray those trees in which Abu Qardan lives with water after sunset every three days and continuously, as Abu Qardan escapes and leaves the place for fear of his young from the water.

With my best wishes
