  Monkeys reproduce sexually.The female monkey gives birth to her young 160 days after pregnancy, and gives birth to one young every two years.There is no specific time for monkeys to mate, as the matter depends on the presence of shelter and food،  In the absence of food and housing, monkeys stop the mating process.  The baby monkey depends on breastfeeding from the mother as the main source of food.There are also a small number of monkeys that mate during the first years of their lives, while mating occurs in the majority between the ages of 4-8 years،  It should be noted that females mature sexually and are able to mate about a year before the male.  Some species of monkeys do not mate for long periods, and therefore there is no sexual intercourse that leads to reproduction, or sexual intercourse between them may be limited to the estrus period (ovulation)،  This behavior combined with the monkeys' dependence on food and habitat may be a reason why their numbers are not large, but there are other species that mate 

throughout the year.

 Monkeys have a life cycle that includes many changes.The duration of the apes’ life cycle varies according to their species, and here are the stages of the monkeys’ lives:

 Prenatal stage :

 pregnancy stage; This stage lasts about 5.5 months, and at this stage, the health of the fetal monkey is linked to the health of the mother،  Stress and poor health cause problems in the child’s health, such as congenital deformities or behavioral deformities.  This stage is similar to the stage of human formation, as the monkey fetus grows in the female’s uterus, and during this period its body organs are formed, including the head, arms, legs, and the rest of the body.  Childhood stage :

 This stage extends from birth until the second year, and is characterized by several characteristics.After the first hour of birth, the baby monkey begins to breastfeed, and at the age of two weeks it begins to eat solid food،  When the monkey reaches the age of one and a half months, it begins to move and explore independently of the mother.

  The weight of the infant monkey begins to increase to about 0.65 kg a month after birth, and continues to grow until it reaches 1 kg at the age of 5 months،  When it reaches the age of 4-8 months, it is gradually weaned.  When the baby monkey reaches the first year, its average weight reaches about 1.3 kg, and complete nutritional weaning begins.The baby also remains close to the mother until the age of one and a half years until she gives birth to another monkey،  At this stage, the monkey develops social and behavioral skills that are directly related to sex, as a form of preparation to prepare for mating in the later stage.

  Adolescence :

 Sexual maturity: This stage extends from the age of 3 to 7 years, during which the monkeys have achieved sexual maturity, and as a result several changes occur in hormones and the characteristics of sexual behavior،  At this stage, the estrus cycle begins, which extends for 26-29 days, and from the age of 3-4 years, females are able to reproduce, but males need more time to be able to reproduce.

  Puberty stage:

  This stage begins after the age of eight years, during which the male has reached the full size that qualifies him to reproduce, and at this age the marriage season for both sexes begins completely.

  Aging stage:

  This stage extends from the age of 15 years and beyond, and diseases of aging rarely appear in wild populations, but captive monkeys found in gardens are more vulnerable to the threat of diseases،  The most important diseases that affect monkeys at this stage are: Cancer, diabetes, obesity, arthritis, atherosclerosis, gum disease, and cataracts.
