Description of the killer whale 

 The killer whale is considered the largest dolphin that lives in the seas and oceans.  He has a strong, thick body. 

The average length of females is about 8.5 m, with a weight of approximately 7.5 tons, while males reach a length of 9.8 m, with a weight of approximately 10 tons. 

The average length of newborn babies is 2 m, with a weight ranging from 150 to 200 kg.  The head is voluminous and round. 

The dorsal fin is triangular in shape and pointed.It is located in the middle of the back.It is 2 m long in males, while in females and young it is slightly curved in the shape of a sickle.Its length is about 0.9 m.  The pectoral fins are 

circularly elongated.

  The caudal fin is large, black at the top and white at the bottom, with a slit appearing in the middle, about 2 m long.  Each jaw contains 10 to 14 pairs of sharp and wide teeth. 

The back is black, a small oval-shaped spot appears behind the eyes on both sides in white, and a gray-white spot appears behind the dorsal fin in the shape of a saddle. 

A large white spot extending from the lower jaw to the bottom of the tail.It expands towards the genitals.This spot is long and narrow in males, and wide, almost circular in females.  

The colors of the killer whale, the position and size of these spots, vary according to the breed to which it belongs (for killer whales that live in the northeastern Pacific Ocean, they are divided into three types: resident, migratory, and oceanic،  They differ among themselves in color, body mass, and the size of the dorsal fin.As for those that live in Antarctica, they are also divided into three types that differ in size and the color of body spots.  It fires 

jets that reach a height of 1 to 2 m.

 What does a killer whale eat ?

 The killer whale heads the food chain pyramid as the largest predator in the oceans.  It feeds on a diverse number of prey, such as fish (sharks, bluefin tuna, halibut, herring, salmon), cephalopods (squid and octopus), sea turtles،  It also feeds on marine mammals (seals, sea lions, marine elephants, otters, dolphins, porpoises, beluga whales, sperm whales, minke whales and other whales), seabirds such as penguins.  Killer whales feed on average 45 kg of food per day, and can eat much more than that.

 No cases of killer whale attacks on humans have ever been recorded before in nature, but, in the case of captivity, many attacks by whales on their trainers have been recorded،  Some of them were light attacks and others were deadly, leading their victims to die from wounds or drowning, the last of which was،  Whale Telecom attack on trainer Dawn Bronshaw in 2010 at Zoo “sey World Orlando” in Florida.

Habitat 

 Killer whales are social animals, most of which live in groups usually consisting of 20 or more individuals.  The killer whale lives in all the seas and oceans of the world.  Killer whales usually prefer depths of up to 300 m.  It is found in the Arctic and Antarctic regions.It prefers cold, temperate coastal waters such as those of Japan and Alaska, and this explains why it is rare in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea.  The killer whale or orca whale is a migratory species.
